The representation of artists’ estates continues to be big business for galleries. One hit at Frieze Masters was Sigmar Polke’s large work Auto (Jeep) (Car [Jeep]) (1992), on show at David Zwirner’s stand. The gallery now represents the German artist’s estate. Hauser & Wirth now represents the estate of the Canadian-born artist Philip Guston, a painter and printmaker in the New York school who later moved away from Abstract Expressionism. It’s been quite the few months for the late British abstract artist John Hoyland, whose show recently opened at Damien Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery in south London. Hoyland’s estate is now represented by Pace, which showed his work at Frieze London. Contemporary artists are also in the news: Victoria Miro now represents the South Korean artist Do Ho Suh, and the French gallery Chantal Crousel is the latest to represent the Milan-based multimedia artist Roberto Cuoghi.
