Missed last night’s opening party? Fear not: the US artist Tom Friedman’s latest work is the perfect antidote to a debilitating attack of Fomo. Produced specifically for the fair, Cocktail Party at Stephen Friedman Gallery (FL, C6) is a life-sized group of party-goers, frozen mid-selfie, mid-wave and mid-swig as the hustle and bustle of the fair continues around them. Friedman (no relation to the dealer), who is based in Northampton, Massachusetts, dressed all the figures in charity-shop clothes. One party-goer is accessorised with a fully functioning watch—a reminder, perhaps, that time waits for no one in the art world. Described by the artist as a “living cartoon”, the hand-carved in-crowd is on sale for $1.5m.
