It’s all about Damien Hirst this week, as the former YBA launches his long-awaited new gallery in Newport Street, south London. Visitors to the new space may well venture in to the on-site Other Criteria shop where the publication Damien Hirst, Portraits of Frank: The Wolseley Drawings can be purchased for £45.00. Damien’s delectable drawings of Frank Dunphy, his former business manager, were sketched during breakfast meetings at the swish eponymous London restaurant between 2004 and 2010. The book “has been published to coincide with Frank’s retirement after almost 15 years with the artist”, says a press blurb (it was widely reported in 2010 that Dunphy took a back-seat role in handling Hirst’s business affairs). The genial Irishman is credited with dreaming up some of the artist’s most successful (marketing) ventures, such as the 2008 Sotheby’s auction, Beautiful Inside my Head Forever, which fetched £111m in total.
