Following Bonhams’ opening of its Geneva office in 2013, the auction house has appointed Andrea Bodmer as its first regional representative in Zurich. Meanwhile, Daniel Struyf will fill the newly created role of international jewellery director. Phillips has appointed Michael Sherman, the former vice-president of communications at Christie’s International Real Estate, as its chief communications and public relations officer.
THE FAIRS
Pablo del Val, previously the director of Mexico City’s Zona Maco gallery, has joined Art Dubai as director of exhibitor relations. His former post has been filled by the Mexican curator Daniel Garza Usabiaga. Margaret Tao, a journalist in the field of Asian art for the past 25 years, has been named executive director of Asia Week New York.
THE GALLERIES
Richard Calvocoressi, the former director of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and of the Henry Moore Foundation, has joined mega-gallery Gagosian in London, as a director and senior curator, just in time for the opening of the gallery’s new space in Grosvenor Hill, Mayfair, on 10 October. Robert Sheffield has joined Dominique Lévy gallery as an associate director after five years as an associate director in the UK chairman’s office at Christie’s, London.
As well as celebrating 30 years running a gallery, Philip Mould is relocating from Dover Street to a three-storey space on Pall Mall on 13 October. Willoughby Gerrish, formerly at the Fine Art Society, has joined Bowman Sculpture as head of Modern and contemporary sculpture. The dealer Kashya Hildebrand has closed her gallery space in London, although the business will remain online and she will continue to offer consulting services. Custot Gallery Dubai, founded by the London-based French art dealer Stéphane Custot of Waddington Custot, is opening on 18 January 2016 in Dubai’s Alserkal district. The former Liverpool-based dealer Ceri Hand has taken on a new role at Simon Lee Gallery, as associate director for institutions and public relations.
London’s design scene is getting two new players this month. The Atelier Achille Salvagni, showcasing the work of the Italian designer, opens on Grafton Street, Mayfair, on 1 October, while the Paris-based Galerie Dutko, known for selling Art Deco and contemporary furniture, is opening its first London space in Davies Street, also in Mayfair, on 8 October.
As the British Antique Dealers’ Association (Bada) approaches its centenary in 2018, it has appointed Marco Forgione, the former head of the Event and Visual Communication Association, as its chief executive.
ARTIST MOVES
Andrea Rosen Gallery now represents the estate of the Polish sculptor Alina Szapocznikow, who survived three concentration camps during the Second World War. Casey Kaplan has added the British-born, New York-based artist Hugh Scott-Douglas to its roster. Timothy Taylor Gallery now represents Shezad Dawood and Gabriel de la Mora. The US artist Sarah Crowner is now represented by Simon Lee Gallery. Tanya Bonakdar Gallery now represents the Slavs and Tatars collective, and the German gallery Gisela Capitain has taken on the Hong Kong sound artist Samson Young.
