The government of Abu Dhabi is helping to fund a major makeover of France’s Musée de Cluny—Musée National du Moyen Âge (National Museum of the Middle Ages) in Paris. The museum plans to add a two-level reception area of 500 sq. m, rework its Medieval garden and restore parts of its Medieval townhouse facility and attached Gallo-Roman ruins. The extension’s €7.3m budget will be funded 45% by the French state and 55% by Abu Dhabi. The museum plans to loan works to the UAE as part of the Louvre Abu-Dhabi project. The museum will remain open throughout construction, which is due to begin next year and conclude in 2020.
