Major artists will dismantle and sell off parts of their own paintings and sculptures this autumn—but it’s all in a good cause. Shared, a fundraising initiative launched by Macmillan Cancer Support and the Italian company De’Longhi, launches at Somerset House in London (10-13 September). Works by artists such as Richard Wilson, Richard Wentworth, Annie Morris and Idris Khan will be broken down into components and sold in pieces (proceeds go towards Macmillan’s Not Alone campaign). The UK painter Humphrey Ocean will sell a series of prints while the photographer Liz Rideal will create a collective photo montage. Kathleen Soriano, the former director of exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts, is overseeing the project. Richard Wilson’s take on the event is, meanwhile, particularly enlightening. “[Shared is] the miracle of the five loaves and two fish played out through a contemporary art charity exhibition,” he says.
