The UK’s pavilion at Expo in Milan could end up at Kew Gardens. The £7m pavilion, designed by Nottingham artist Wolfgang Buttress, enables visitors to “follow the dance of a bee, travelling through a series of landscapes”. You first meander into a wildflower meadow and then climb into a giant aluminium structure, which is based on the concept of a beehive, with live buzzing sounds of bees transmitted from Nottingham. The pavilion will be dismantled when Expo closes 31 October, and hopefully brought back to an appropriate site in the UK. Talks with possible venues have just started, with the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew being a frontrunner. A gardens spokeswoman says that she “cannot confirm at this stage” whether it will be acquired.
