The Slovakian artist Roman Ondák is looking for mothers and toddlers keen to be part of a major exhibition in Milan. Ondák’s piece, Teaching to Walk, will feature in The Great Mother (26 August-15 November) show at the Palazzo Reale, which explores the representation of motherhood in Modern and contemporary art. The exhibition is organised by Massimiliano Gioni of the New Museum in New York, and produced by the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi. Ondák wants visitors to witness “the specific moment in which a child literally takes his first steps towards independence and gradually loses physical contact with his mother”. The organisers are seeking mothers with male babies (girls need not apply) who are willing to wander around the exhibition space once a day for around half an hour—tantrums and tears permitting.
