Meg Ryan, the Hollywood actress of When Harry Met Sally fame, escaped the London heat wave today with a visit to the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition in the cool confines of Burlington House. Dressed in black, the actress cut a demure figure in the brightly coloured show co-ordinated by the artist Martin Craig-Martin. Further Hollywood star appeal can be found upstairs in an exhibition of Joseph Cornell’s works, which opened to the RA’s Friends today, 3 July (until 27 September). The late US artist was famously infatuated with leading ladies of the cinema such as Lauren Bacall and Greta Garbo and included them in his equally famous collages.
