Karaoke rock stars

The Art Newspaper

Who doesn’t love a sing-along? More than 100 artists have contributed karaoke videos to an ongoing catalogue and roving exhibition titled “CKTV”, launched by artist Chris Rice and Cleopatra's gallery in 2012, and now organised by Rice and artist Joe Kay. Every so often the participating artists gather to sing and invite audience members to select songs from the catalogue and join them. Iterations of these events have taken place at the Shanghai Biennial, the Brooklyn Academy of Music and, most recently, the Gift Shop at Red Bull Studios in New York. For the 12 June event, artists including Allison Brainard, Liz Englander, Joe Kay and Ryder Ripps belted out their favorite songs, while the artist Ben Rayner debuted his new book of karaoke-themed photographs, “Organized by Title”, published by the Gift Shop.
