Back in the day you could always rely on Brad Pitt to bring a sprinkling of Hollywood stardust to the VIP opening of Art Basel. Those shoes have now been ably filled by Leonardo DiCaprio, who was spotted perusing the aisles today, 16 June, hot on the heels of Frieze New York last month. Other celebs and art world luminaries in attendance at the VIP opening of Art Basel were the former Germany footballer Michael Ballack; Thomas Campbell, the director of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art; the writer and curator Philip Tinari; the director of the Dia Art Foundation Jessica Morgan; and Olivier Varenne, the director of exhibitions and collections at the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania.
