Among the extra-curricular events kick-starting this year’s Art Basel today, 15 June, is the VIP opening of Liste satellite fair. Appropriately for a launch party, the fair, which celebrates its 20th birthday this year, is based at the former Warteck brewery. Alcoholic drinks are also on offer at the Roth Bar, which opened earlier in the day in the lobby of the luxurious Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois. The work is by Björn, Oddur and Einar Roth, the son and grandsons of German-born Swiss artist Dieter Roth, who created the original "art bar" back in the day. Meanwhile, at Art Basel, the Unlimited section opened to the art world’s early birds (with VIP passes). A number of kinetic works were drawing the crowds, including Egocentric System by Julius von Bismarck, who sits at a desk in the middle of a large spinning dish. Takashi Murakami is due to hold court this evening in a Q&A with Maxa Zoller, the curator of Art Basel's Film sector, after the screening of his debut feature film, Jellyfish Eyes.
