The international bank UBS has appointed a new director to oversee its contemporary art collection. The former head of art business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, New York, Mary Rozell, takes up the position in September.

Rozell is also the author of The Art Collector’s Handbook, published last year. She has worked as a director, curator and advisor for private collections and commercial galleries around the world. While living in Berlin, she was the German correspondent for The Art Newspaper. She succeeds Irene Zortea, who retires after more than 7 years at the post.

This month, a selection of UBS’s holdings will be displayed in the exhibition Don’t Shoot the Painter at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Milan (17 June-4 October), including work by artists such as John Baldessari, Gilbert & George, Damien Hirst, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Christopher Wool.

UBS is also the lead sponsor and partner for Art Basel (18-21 June). During the fair, they will organise a presentation of 30 works by the British artist Lucian Freud in the fair’s VIP lounge.
