After 40 years in the spotlight, Miss Piggy has finally been awarded the recognition she deserves. The Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum last night presented her with its annual award that celebrates women who are “firsts in their fields”. While awaiting the guest of honour, Miss Piggy’s consort, Kermit the Frog, and fellow feminist, Gloria Steinem, chatted in the front row. “I get to meet Kermit and I get to meet Miss Piggy on the same day—how great is that?” Steinem gushed.
True to diva form, the honoree took her time making an appearance; Elizabeth Sackler was ready to present the award to Kermit in her stead when Miss Piggy finally came to the stage. The audience was then treated to a montage of the porcine star’s career highlights, to the tune of Fergie’s Glamorous and—after a quick costume change by Miss Piggy, of course—Gloria Steinem joined her for a brief chat about feminism and following your dreams. Although Steinem would say a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle, she couldn’t help but ask Miss Piggy about her relationship with Kermit. “He hasn’t asked me to marry him yet,” Miss Piggy replied. The camera turned to Kermit in the audience, who looked rather… green.
