Sotheby’s in London will offer 126 ceramic works by Picasso on 25 June, in a stand-alone auction, at the beginning of its Impressionist and Modern art day sale. The pieces, from the collection of Picasso’s grand-daughter Marina, include hand-painted plates, vases, tiles and hand-modelled figures dating from 1947 to the late 1960s, produced in the Madoura ceramics studio in Vallauris, near Cannes. Top lots include a 1954 “vase positive-negative”—a painted, partially glazed jug with a matching jug-shaped hole cut in the side—estimated at £180,000-£250,000 and a 1953 “abstraction” vase, in plain white with a slash in the body, estimated at £150,000-£200,000.
