Next time you post an image to Instagram, make sure you know exactly what you’re sharing, or you could get into trouble with the law. Jennifer Pawluck, a student in Montreal, has been sentenced to 18 months’ probation and 100 hours of community service for posting an image of controversial street art. The work depicts Ian Lafrenière—a spokesman for the Montreal police who gained notoriety during student protests in the city in 2012—with a bullet hole in his head. Although Pawluck did not create the piece, she also posted disparaging captions about the police. The court found her guilty of harassment and ordered her to stop posting publicly on social media for a year.
