Buying digital art just became more affordable for collectors—and more profitable for artists. Daata Editions, founded by David Gryn, the director of London’s Artprojx, commissions original sound, video and online works of art, which will be available for download from the site on 14 May. The London-based collector Anita Zabludowicz has been advising on the project, according to Gryn.
“We wanted to start off with prices [that make it] virtually possible for anyone to buy a work of art”, Gryn says. Sound and website works are priced at between $100 and $2,800, video works range from $200 to $3,000—these prices include artist royalties.
Collectors will also be enticed to purchase early: each limited edition work starts off at a base price and rises in $100 increments, and the costs double from the 14th to the final 15th edition. Visitors to the site this week will be able to download for free Oh the Humanity! (2015), a new video by Jon Rafman. Works from Daata Editions will be screened at Nada New York (until 17 May), Salon 94 Bowery and Soho House (until 15 June).
Artists participating in the first phase of Daata Editions are Ilit Azoulay, Helen Benigson, David Blandy, Matt Copson, Ed Fornieles, Leo Gabin, Daniel Keller & Martti Kalliala, Lina Lapelyte, Rachel Maclean, Florian Meisenberg, Takeshi Murata, Hannah Perry, Jon Rafman, Charles Richardson, Amalia Ulman, Stephen Vitiello and Chloe Wise.
