Election day is here—vote art!

It’s election day, and voters are going to the polls up and down the UK in one of the closest General Elections in living memory. The Art Newspaper has been on the campaign trail with the artist Bob and Roberta Smith, who is running for parliament on an arts education ticket. Under the rousing slogan “All schools should be art schools,” and with natty campaign badges declaring “Vote Bob Smith 4 More Art,” he's one of the candidates to be the Member of Parliament for Surrey Heath in the south east of England. He is pitted against a senior Conservative politician, the former education secretary, Michael Gove, no less. Bob and Roberta Smith’s wife, the artist Jessica Voorsanger, is his campaign manager. How many protest votes do they hope to attract? “If he gets into triple figures, I’ll bake him a cake,” she told us. We wish all the candidates well, while hoping the Royal Academician, former Tate trustee and straight-talking, spin-free political maverick gets his cake and eats its after the ballot papers are counted.
