John Studzinski, the British-based, US-born financier who donated £5m towards Tate Modern's expansion, has been made a trustee of the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles. “We are delighted to welcome John Studzinski to the Getty Trust board of trustees,” says the chairman Mark Siegel in a statement. “He brings a remarkable record of international philanthropy and achievement in the arts, cultural heritage and human rights. In addition, he brings financial expertise that will benefit the Getty’s programmes around the world.” Studzinski is senior managing director of the global investment firm Blackstone where, the statement stresses, he holds special responsibility for “ultra high-net-worth families outside the United States” (in 2007 he was voted Banker of the Year by the Bank of England). In November 2014, Studzinski received the Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy. He has dual citizenship in the US and the UK, and is thought to collect Old Masters, contemporary art and Chinese bronzes.
