The Haus der Kunst, Munich, is staging a monographic retrospective of the German artist Georg Baselitz. Spanning the past 50 years of his career, “Georg Baselitz: Back Then, In Between and Today” (19 September-1 February 2015) aims to connect his early paintings from the 1960s and 1970s with a recent body of work known as the “Black Paintings” (above, Bei Willem, 2009) as well as a series of monumental bronze sculptures. The curatorial focus is on themes and motifs that recur throughout Baselitz’s work, such as the human figure and the eagle.
