Greece’s National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens has spent €50,000 at Frieze London this week, adding works to its collections thanks to funds provided by Neon, the cultural organisation founded this year by the Greek collector Dimitris Daskalopoulos. Of the 11 pieces that caught the eye of Anna Kafetsi, the museum's director, nine are by the Croatian artist Vlado Martek, whose work is on view at Aanant & Zoo gallery’s booth in the Frame section (F37). These include The white one is missing, 1996 (priced at €3,000), and Theoretic Prints, 1995 (priced at €1,500). The museum has also supported the Greek artist Andreas Angelidakis and his Athens gallery The Breeder (F17) with the acquisition of the eye-catching installation Casino, 2012 (priced at €20,000). The museum also bought the Cypriot artist Haris Epaminonda's Untitled, 2012, priced at €18,000, from Istanbul’s Rodeo gallery (F10).
