The Tate announced last month that it is increasing its efforts to collect globally, making Modern and contemporary African art a priority. Now 40% of Tate Modern’s acquisition fund is being spent on art from beyond Europe and North America.
With the help of the Guaranty Trust Bank, the Tate has purchased Museum of Contemporary African Art, 1997-2002 by the Netherlands-based, Benin-born Meschac Gaba. The multiroom installation is due to go on show in Tate Modern in July 2013, along with an exhibition of work by Ibrahim El-Salahi, the Sudanese-born Modernist.
