Frankfurt
The Nazarener-inspired artist Johann David Passavant (1787-1861) was the Inspektor (effectively the director) of the Städelsche Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt from 1840 to 1861. During this time, he was responsible for the museum’s acquisition of 11 drawings by Raphael, the patron saint of the Nazareners, that form the core of “Raphael’s Drawings” at the Städel Museum (7 November-3 February 2013). Around these have been gathered around 40 others loaned by museums including the Albertina, the Louvre and the British Museum. The exhibition complements “Late Raphael” showing at the Louvre (until 14 January 2013). The catalogue by the curators Joachim Jacoby and Martin Sonnabend is published by Hirmer Verlag (€45, hb).
