The Tate is establishing a new South Asian acquisitions committee to collect Modern and contemporary art from India and surrounding countries, as well as a committee for works from Russia, Eastern Europe and the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States). The South Asia group will be separate from the existing Asia Pacific acquisitions committee, which launched in 2007 and helped to acquire 26 works between 2010 and 2011. The Russian committee will be led by the Florida-based curator Kira Flanzraich. Its members will include Nonna Materkova, the founder of London’s not-for-profit space Calvert 22, and the collectors Andrei Tretyakov and Igor Tsukanov.
