Goetz's Arte Povera collection visits Basel

The German collector Ingvild Goetz is loaning more than 100 works from her Arte Povera collection to the Kunstmuseum, Basel (9 September - 3 February 2013). The movement, which emerged in Italy in the 1960s, was experimental and conceptual, moving beyond Minimalism by drawing on everyday materials. “Generations of artists have been inspired by Arte Povera artists; the way they reused the most simple materials, but also their criticism of the art market, which followed capitalist rules. Think of Jannis Kounellis’s piece at L’Attico gallery in Rome in 1969, which consisted just of 12 horses,” Goetz says.
