The Unilever Series: Tino Sehgal comes to the Turbine Hall

His ephemeral performance art is on display 24 July-28 October

Few artists are as emblematic of art’s shift away from the creation of objects as Tino Sehgal. The British-born, German artist’s work solely exists in encounters between the audience and performers enacting choreographed scenarios. No official visual documentation of Sehgal’s work exists—it lives on in the memories of its audience and in occasional opportunistic photographs. Little is known about the artist’s plans for the Turbine Hall, but Jessica Morgan, a Tate curator of international art, has hinted that the work will relate to the bodily exertions happening at the Olympic Games.
