The Tate and the Paul Mellon Centre, London, have reached an agreement on the fate of a photographic archive of British paintings. Tate staff will be given access by the centre to remove the confidential material from export licence applications. In 2008, the Tate wanted to dispose of the images and the centre agreed to accept them (The Art Newspaper, May, p22). When alerted, the Tate removed part of the sensitive material, but left data on around 1,000 pictures. It was initially suggested that the archive should be returned to the Tate for destruction.
