As a precursor and complement to the auctions, the fifth edition of the Pinta Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art Show ran in New York from 10 to 13 November. For this instalment, the fair moved from its site on Pier 92 to a more centrally located space in midtown Manhattan. International collectors and curators including Ella Cisneros, Tiqui Atencio, Rafael Romero, Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, Rafael Nieto and former Colombian president César Gaviria were seen walking through the aisles. Strong sales were reported by several galleries including Josée Bienvenu, Frederico Sève, Henrique Faria (above, Marta Minujin, from the series Paying off the Argentine Foreign Debt with Corn, “The Latin American Gold”, 1985-2011) and Y Gallery of New York; Nara Roesler of São Paulo; Sammer Gallery of Miami; and Galeria Graça Brandão of Lisbon. As part of the museum acquisitions programme underwritten by the Latin American investment bank MBA Lazard, the Bronx Museum, Newark Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, added to their growing collections of Latin American art with purchases made at the fair. The show included an excellent artists’ projects section organised by the São Paulo-based Jacopo Crivelli Visconti, where works by Brazilian artist Fernanda Gomes, priced at $10,000 to $30,000, quickly sold out to collectors.
