Mexico City. The eighth edition of the contemporary art fair Zona Maco opens this month in Mexico City (6-10 April). Adriano Pedrosa, co-curator of this year’s Istanbul Biennal, is returning to the fair for the third year to curate Zonamaco Sur. He has chosen to focus on projects by emerging women artists, including Sandra Cinto, Gilda Mantilla and Geta Bratescu. More than 25m pesos ($2.1m) have been invested into this year’s edition, which sees the new addition of a design focus with ten projects including Esrawe Studio, Pirwi and Ezequiel Farca.
Exhibiting alongside galleries from the region such as Mexico’s Kurimanzutto and OMR, and Brazil’s Nara Roesler, are international galleries including London’s Max Wigram, Los Angeles-based Honor Fraser as well as big-hitters such as Hauser & Wirth and David Zwirner. “What started as a local fair has managed to be recognised internationally,” said Zélika Garcia, the fair director.
