Joe Simon-Whelan “can no longer continue” with his lawsuit against the Andy Warhol Foundation, according to a statement made after his attorney Seth Redniss, made a motion to withdraw himself from the trial. Redniss stated he is unable to handle the case on his own, according to court papers. Simon-Whelan, who first filed the complaint in 2007 over the authenticity of a 1964 Warhol self-portrait he owns, said: “I firmly believe my case is robust,” but said he lacks the financial resources to pursue it. In its statement, the Warhol Foundation said the development was “not a surprise”, adding that Simon-Whelan’s claims “were dead long ago”.
