The contemporary collectors and founders of the Beijing-based Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art (UCCA), Guy and Myriam Ullens, have bought part of Pascale Marthine Tayou’s Human Being @ Work (2007-ongoing), on show at the Venice Biennale. The group of crystal figures with bright bead necklaces sold in the region of €160,000. Tayou is represented by Continua (2.1/X1), which sold two other examples on the first day. Belgian sugar magnate Guy Ullens and his wife Myriam founded UCCA in 2007 and recently raised $22.2m when they sold 18 works of Chinese art at auction in Beijing.
