Farhad Farjam opens private museum in Dubai

Iranian businessman Dr Farhad Farjam is set to open a museum to house his collection of Islamic, modern and contemporary art in Dubai. The Farjam Collection, due to open on 4 March, is located in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The museum’s opening coincides with the third edition of Art Dubai—the region’s principal contemporary art fair. The museum’s inaugural exhibition is devoted to Dr Farjam’s extensive collection of Islamic art which includes items such as Qurans, rare manuscripts, miniatures, lacquer work, textiles and glass. A noted art patron and collector, Dr Farjam has also amassed a substantial collection of modern and contemporary pieces with works by Picasso, Matisse, Renoir and Ahmed Moustafa of Egypt. He is currently in negotiations to open another museum in Shiraz, southwestern Iran.
