Bacon show for Zhukova and Abramovich's CCC Moscow

Having set a record for the artist at auction, the collectors put the art to work

CCC Moscow, the new gallery set up by Daria Zhukova, girlfriend of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, will host a Francis Bacon exhibition in 2010.

Entitled “Death Shadowing Life: Francis Bacon: The Late Paintings, 1971-92”, it will be curated by Martin Harrison, author of the artist’s forthcoming catalogue raisonné and will travel to the Hermitage in St Petersburg. The forthcoming show may explain why Mr Abramovich paid $86m on 14 May for a 1976 triptych at Sotheby’s New York—setting a new auction record for a post-war work of art.

To coincide with the opening of a major Bacon show at Tate Britain this month, we publish an in-depth investigation into the market for the artist and reveal other collectors including Tottenham Hotspur majority owner Joe C. Lewis and artists Lucian Freud and Damien Hirst.

CCC Moscow opens this month with a Kabakov retrospective.
