Lawrence Weiner's latest film "Water in Milk Exists" premieres in Basel

The narrative, performed by an amateur cast, will be played out at underground movie theatre Kino Mascotte due to its adult themes

The European premiere of Lawrence Weiner’s new film tonight isn’t for the faint hearted. “Water in Milk Exists” features a range of hardcore sexual encounters of various persuasions. Because of its explicit content, the latest offering from the rascally veteran conceptualist is being screened in Basel’s Kino Mascotte, the cinema of choice of the belted-raincoat brigade. Weiner is keen to emphasise that, although the work is being screened in a porno cinema, none of the participants in his film are pros but are the artist’s friends and acquaintances. The erotic auteur remains behind the camera, although he makes his presence very much felt through a voiceover, with some of his words based on Henry the Navigator, a book he wrote for his grandson. Let’s just hope the original text was illustrated somewhat differently.
