Moscow
Moscow collector Alexander Ivanov, 45, is negotiating to open a Fabergé Museum in the southwest German city of Baden-Baden this autumn. City officials say discussions are in the early stages for the institution to be housed in the Trinkhalle, a 19th-century spa building. Mr Ivanov is director of the Russian National Museum, a private gallery in Moscow which he says houses a collection of around 3,000 Fabergé pieces. Mr Ivanov is also building a museum in downtown Moscow to house this collection which is set to open in 2010. Most recently, he purchased the 1902 Rothschild Fabergé egg for £9m ($18m) at Christie’s in London, setting a record for the most expensive Russian work of art bought at auction. Mr Ivanov plans to display this piece in the State Historical Museum in Moscow this month.
