The first edition of the Print Basel fair (until Sunday 17 June), based in the halls of Restaurant Volkshaus on Claraplatz, is selling a variety of works from silk screens to monotypes. While the dealers that The Art Newspaper spoke to said there was a quiet opening reception, they also said they were happy with sales in the first few days. Paul Stolper, of the Paul Stolper Gallery, says he “has sold across the board, with prices ranging from $4,000 to $100,000.”
There is a mix of international galleries showing, but it is London that dominates with six participants including Flowers Graphics, Purdy Hicks, Andipa and Marlborough Graphics. Artists on show include Eduardo Paolozzi, Gavin Turk and subversive urban artist Banksy.
