The gallery's loss of one of its stars only contributes to their recent bout of poor fortune

Who can doubt the importance of getting into Art Basel? Star New York figurative painter Ena Swansea (featuring in the next installment of Saatchi’s “Triumph of Painting”) has been one of the main breadwinners for Gasser & Grunert for the past few years, but as soon as the gallery failed to make the cut for this year’s fair, Swansea says she fired Grunert. As she admits: “It’s not often that a gallery is doing so well with the grooviest fairs, and within a year just gets kicked out. The gallery has even been rejected by Frieze now.”
