The Museum of Modern Art in New York has acquired David Hockney’s Seated woman being served tea by standing companion (1963) with a donation from Donald L. Bryant Jr, a trustee and member of MoMA’s advisory committee. The painting was bought by an anonymous bidder at Sotheby’s London in June for £3,284,671 ($5.9 million). MoMA will not disclose what it paid for the work. Seated woman was one of 10 paintings in the artist’s first solo exhibition that launched his career, “Pictures with people in” at the Kasmin Gallery, London in 1963.
