Norton Museum’s war loot research grant

A grant will enable them to probe incomplete provenance records

The Norton Museum of Art has received a $50,000 grant to fund research for European paintings the provenance of which is incomplete or the ownership of which had changed hands in Nazi-occupied Europe. The gift is from the Max and Iris Stern Museums Legacy Programme, administered by Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. Dr Max Stern (1904-87) was one of Canada’s most important art collectors and dealers. He and his wife had a house in Palm Beach in the 1980s and were generous supporters of the Norton.
