New president for Pollock-Krasner Foundation

Samuel Sachs II has been named president of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, a post held by Eugene V. Thaw since the foundation was established in 1985. The position is responsible for the assets of the foundation, including the many prints and few early paintings by Jackson Pollock and a number of works by Lee Krasner that remain in the artists’ estates. The foundation offers the Pollocks through the Joan Washburn Gallery, and the Krasners through the Robert Miller Gallery, both in New York. Mr Sachs will be involved in the core activity of the foundation, making grants to individual artists. The foundation has given more than $37 million to artists in 65 countries since 1985. In 1997 Mr Sachs became head of the Frick Collection in New York, but left after five years, for reasons that are not clear. There has since been a settlement, the details of which are confidential.
