Yoko Ono: women’s room

Yoko Ono is a strong a presence at this year’s Venice Biennale, where her latest work, “Imagine peace”, is installed in the hippified “Utopia Station” in the Arsenale. This Paris exhibition (until 28 September) is a reminder of the rawness of Ono’s original works, in particular those which reveal her feminist convictions. There are four video works “Freedom”, “Fly” (right, a still from this), “Rape”; and “Cut piece” (a film of a 1964 performance), as well as installations. However dated these works may seem, they still have a freshness, and innocence and, above all, are not afraid to take their subject seriously. The curator is Hans Ulrich Obrist who has a long-standing role at this influential French gallery.
