As well as Manifesta and Documenta this month, art lovers must also try and visit Art Basel, the most influential Modern and contemporary art fair in the world (12-17 June). Inaugurated in 1969, the fair covers the years from the beginning of the 20th century to today, from classic Modernism to the youngest artists. “Basel is always way ahead of the other fairs, even if the others keep getting better in quality,” said Parisian gallery owner Jennifer Flay, “It is not just a selling event, but an important meeting point for creative art.” (See What’s On, p. 31)
