San Francisco MoMA has new director

Mr Benezra comes to the city's Museum of Modern Art from The Art Institute of Chicago

Neal Benezra has been appointed director of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He takes over from David Ross who stepped down last August. Mr Benezra comes to SFMoMA from The Art Institute of Chicago where he is deputy director and Frances and Thomas Dittmer Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. He also served for eight years as assistant director for art and public programs at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Mr Benezra has organised several exhibitions, among them retrospectives of artists Edward Ruscha in 2000 and Bruce Nauman in 1994, both at the Hirshhorn. Mr Benezra takes up his post at SFMoMA in August.
