Were he alive today, it is a safe bet that Leonardo would have mastered the intricacies of digital technology. It is appropriate, then, that interactive computer programmes are among the modern innovations helping to reveal the artistic and engineering achievements of Leonardo and his Renaissance contemporaries in “The art of invention” at the Science Museum, London (until 24 April 2000). The exhibition, which attracted one million visitors during its time in Paris, Florence and New York, features spectacular large-scale working models recreated from original Renaissance drawings, including Leonardo’s flying machine, Di Giorgio’s self-moving chariot and a giant-scale version of Brunelleschi’s Duomo in Florence.
