An international team of archaeologists led by University of Cincinnati classics professor, Jack Davis, is exploring the sites of ancient Greek colonies on the Adriatic coast in Albania. Despite the continuing violence in the nearby Kosovo province of Yugoslavia, where ethnic Albanians are pressing for independence from Serbia, the team is using high-tech surface survey techniques such as radar, magnometry, and analysis of satellite photography to explore a region of fifty square kilometres. The area is largely unexplored and the survey is to be the basis for future excavation.
