Bonnard's modern mindset on show at the Tate

Exhibition opens 12th February with around 300 works on view

An important Pierre Bonnard exhibition opens at the Tate Gallery, London this month (12 February to 17 May), only a few years after a show of the French artist’s landscapes came to the Hayward Gallery across the river. The reason for this exhibition of around 300 works is to “show Bonnard as a twentieth century painter, an artist with a profoundly modern vision,” according to exhibition organiser Sarah Whitfield, who has consulted with John Elderfield, chief curator at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York and the critic David Sylvester. Ms Whitfield has enjoyed the support of the Bonnard family who granted access to many previously unpublished letters and sketchbooks. A full report will appear in The Art Newspaper in March. The exhibition travels to MoMA New York (June to October).
