This will be the last exhibition in the Bäumleingasse gallery before the opening of the Fondation Beyeler Museum on 21 October.

Overview of the work of Sonja Sekula (1918-1963) was held at the Kunstmuseum in Winterthur in 1996. Galerie Hilt is now showing a collection of oil paintings, gouaches and collages by her. Like many artists of her generation, Sekula (who is still little known) was interested in the Indian culture of Alaska and Mexico, and this profoundly imbues her work.

Until 19 July, Galerie Hilt and Art Shop, Freiestrasse 88, 4051 Basel. Tel +41 61 272 09 22

Galerie Demenga is exhibiting the work of five artists, large-format pieces that have previously been shown at art fairs and in museums in Europe and the US. Pilar Valeriano’s “Konstruktion” is accompanied by pieces by Lilian Valladares, João Camara, Kurt Fahrner and Werner Ritter.

Until 21 June, Galerie Demenga, Heinrich Petri Strasse 19, 4051 Basel. Tel: 41 61 272 45 62

Galerie Fabian Walter has invited six artists who have emerged in the early 1990s to exhibit their work. Matthias Aerbli, Elisabeth Heller, Kocheisen & Hullmann, Thomas Ritz, Jenny Watson, Alfred Wirz are all interested in exploring the medium of paint itself through portraits, still lifes and landscapes. The aim of this exhibition is to take stock of a new generation of painters.

Until 21 June, Fabian Walter, Wallstrasse 13, 4051 Basel. Tel +41 61 272 38 77

The Gisèle Linder Gallery is celebrating the eightieth birthday of Gottfried Honegger. Three paintings of 1996 are on show, studies for a mural in three sections painted by the Zurich artist (who is based in Paris) for the Société Générale’s headquarters at La Défense. The exhibition also includes fifteen pastels of 1982, a study for relief paintings, four stelae in chromium plated steel and a multiple in granite.

Until 19 July, Gisèle Linder, Elisabethenstrasse 45, 4051 Basel, Tel +41 61 272 83 77

Mariam Cahn is showing a series of drawings at Stampa. Cahn, from Basel, has pioneered a new approach to this medium.

Until 30 August, Stampa, Spalenberg 2, 4051 Basel. Tel +41 61 272 79 10

Martin Kasper is showing paintings of power stations and other industrial buildings. Kasper, from Fribourg, has assimilated the deadpan photographic style of Bernd and Hilla Becher into his depictions of everyday life.

Until 26 July, Galerie Guillaume Daeppen, Kirchgasse 2, Basel. Tel +41 61 693 04 79

Last but not least...

Gloria Friedmann and Bertrand Lavier. Until the end of July, Elisabeth Kaufmann, St Alban-Vorstadt, Basel, Tel +41 61 272 0840

“Masters of photography 1960-70”, until 30 June, Galerie Anita Neugebauer, St Alban-Vorstadt, Basel, Tel+ 41 61 272 21 57
