In an unexpected move which has surprised the art market by its speed and timing, contemporary art salesman Andrew Fabricant left the Gagosian Gallery at the beginning of last month and has joined senior Chicago dealer Richard Gray, for whom he will be opening an office in New York as soon as he identifies a suitable location. Modern and post-war artists with whom Mr Gray’s gallery is associated include Picasso, Matisse, Giacometti, David Smith, de Kooning, Lichtenstein and Barry Flanagan.
