One of the finest illuminated manuscripts left in private hands has been scooped up by the J. Paul Getty Museum. The manuscript of Boccaccio’s “The fates of illustrious men and women” by an anonymous French painter known as the Boucicaut Master, in a Scottish collection until it was auctioned in New York in 1932, is the most important manuscript now in the Getty’s collection. It will be on view in the new centre from 1997.
