The first book to deal with the early years of the Staffordshire earthenware factory Shaw and Copestake, who produced the popular and collectable (although hideous) glazed earthenware known as SylvaC. The book illustrates the factory’s output from 1894 to the late 1930s—from high Victorian urns to pale green flying ducks. An insight into British vernacular taste. Photographs, diagrams, lists of mould numbers and decoration numbers with dates and names of SylvaC dealers make this a useful guide for the would-be collector and a reference book for dealers.
